Transportation
Winter Park is easily accessible from Denver International Airport. It is a 1½ to 2 hour drive. If you are flying in to DIA there are two main alternatives.
Alternative One, reserve space on a Home James shuttle. I almost always schedule one. They have a very accommodating and reliable schedule. The drivers are professional, safe, and often entertaining. Sometimes, they even stop at Starbucks! There is nothing like an eggnog latte to get one in the holiday spirit. If it is daytime, ask the driver about taking the alternate drive which includes route 6. Route 6 can be substituted for most of the drive on highway 70 and provides a more scenic drive through the mountain canyons.
Alternative Two, rent a car or SUV. Be aware that renting a four wheel drive SUV may be expensive in Denver. Last time I was arriving too late to take the shuttle and had to pay over $100 per day for a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Be sure to ask about taxes and other fees when renting. DIA has some rather large taxes on car rentals. If it is winter, I would recommend requesting chains if you rent a two wheel drive vehicle. Berthoud Pass is well maintained, and chains are not often required, but it is better to be safe. On the positive side, renting an SUV gives you flexibility to arrive in Denver after around 10 p.m., drive around town, and get an extra hour skiing on your last day. It may also be more economical if you have a large group arriving and departing at the same time.
You can rent a limo but it is very expensive. I hear that it is between $300 and $500 each way.
Take the Ski Train from downtown Denver or take Amtrack's service directly to the Granby station.
Some day there will be direct regional jet service to the Granby Airport, please!
